Many people ask us - Why decant?
Well, decanting serves three purposes and applies exclusively to red wines of reasonable quality or age.
Firstly, it separates wine from the unpalatable sediments that have formed during natural maturation. Most red wines over eight years old will have thrown some sediment. The second reason is to allow the wines to “breathe”. After decorking, oxygen opens up your wine and releases flavours and aromas. Even for young reds, aerating will have a mellowing effect as the aggressive tannins lose their bite and become more appealing. Thirdly, since wine is an experience of the senses, savour the rich variety of hues that change with maturity and age.
Uniquely, a crystal glass decanter gives this added pleasure and it will look simply stunning on your dining table on Christmas Day or for any other special occasion!
Decanters make really lovely gifts for weddings or other anniversaries. See our fabulous decanter selection.
To enjoy wines at their best we recommend decanting.
